History

JCI origins Henry Giessenbier founded a dance club in Saint-Louis, Missouri, USA in 1910 with the aim of socially uniting its members.
JCI Latvia JCI Latvia as a national organisation started in the beginning of 1993, when the first persons involved - Māris Baidekalns and Dan Čiščakovs with the help of JCI representative Kim Castellano - started to gather people interested in founding the organisation.

About 50 interested or potential members, as well as representatives of state institutions, entrepreneurs and students from several Latvian cities, guests from JCI Sweden and JCI Estonia took part in the founding of the organisation. The first chapters were established in Dobele, Jelgava and Riga.

The first JCI Latvia Board of Directors elected President Aigars Strauss, Vice President Dan Chishchakovs, Secretary General Māris Baidekalns and Treasurer Jānis Vaivods. JCI Latvia was founded on 27 September 1993 in Riga.

In 1998, at the JCI World Congress in the Philippines, JCI Latvia became a full member of JCI.
In 1999, JCI Latvia joined the JCI Nordic group (a union of 7 countries within JCI). At that time, Latvia established chapters in Riga, Liepaja, Kuldīga, Daugavpils and Saldus.
